I would say the opposite.
WireHose implements most important functionalities in delegates or defines them in interfaces (providing default implementions you can copy), so you can continue extending ERXApplication, ERXGenericRecord, and so on. The only thing you cannot extend is ERXComponent if you want to use WHComponent. Not a big deal... WireHose layout is not the strong part of the framework, anyway. There are a few non-blocking bugs you can easily live with when you do not extend WHApplication.

I am using WireHose with Wonder and I am pretty happy with it.
I am just worried that I choosed a wrong option in the mid term as WireHose does not seem to be activelly developped, and no longer has community suport.

Gary, are you listening? Can you tell us something about WireHose future?

My guess is "No", not in the sense of extending ERXApplication and
friends.  I could be wrong.
