Can you do the ls command of your development machine on which you're trying to
install JDK 1.5?

The folder is under /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework

lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel    5 10 Dec  2009 1.3 -> 1.3.1
drwxr-xr-x  3 root  wheel  102 21 Jul  2009 1.3.1
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   10 10 Dec  2009 1.4 -> CurrentJDK
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   10 10 Dec  2009 1.4.2 -> CurrentJDK
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   10 10 Dec  2009 1.5 -> CurrentJDK
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel   10 10 Dec  2009 1.5.0 -> CurrentJDK
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel    5 10 Dec  2009 1.6 -> 1.6.0
drwxr-xr-x  8 root  wheel  272 15 Apr 13:18 1.6.0
drwxr-xr-x  9 root  wheel  306 15 Apr 13:18 A
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel    1 10 Dec  2009 Current -> A
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel    3 27 Apr 22:25 CurrentJDK -> 1.6

The problem you're specifying is very strange as it's not required to install
JDK/JRE 1.5 to compile the code for 1.5. Can you share the snapshot of your
eclipse > preferences > java > compiler screen. Also make sure the the
project's compiler settings are not overriding eclipse global compiler settings.
