I wouldn't let it worry you too much -- you can tell it's obviously just 
garbage, since it collects back down to a stable state consistently. JMX 
requires object creation, you probably have background threads doing things, 
etc. This isn't THAT big of a deal. If you're really curious, you can take a 
heap snapshot at the bottom and at the top and see what the difference is. 
JProfiler would help a lot here -- i find it pretty impossible to navigate jmap 
heap dumps.
