It's honestly pretty simple.

Apple never makes statements about future products, or their plan for existing 
products.  If you're holding your breath for that to happen, good luck!

The community continues to maintain / upgrade WO in a way that is far better 
than a corporation holding the reins.  Even for a currently sold commercial 
product, what guarantee is there that it will be updated?  Or Open Source 
projects that have little to no support when the champion has left it?

To me, just the fact that WebObjects has been around since 1996 (15 years!) 
means that it has more legs than any other tool I can think of.
