Hi Pascal,

Jeff Simpson at YFU (Youth For Understanding) created a WO system just
like you describe. Jeff is the one that also works with DB2. Ping him
about this.

His creation was slick enough that each user could have "saved reports" of
their own creation that they could easily rerun when they wanted. It was a
good way to get statistics and vital information for internal use.

If you want something "pretty" or more presentable for upper management or
outside use probably Jasper reports could be the way to go.

Jeff used "Scriptura" to interface with WO via SOAP. It gave somewhat tech
savvy end users the ability to design their own forms in a wysiwig editor
and pull elements from WO. It gave that "polished" look that might be
necessary. It freed Jeff from having to keep designing reports. He only
needed to show them the GUI tool and expose business objects to the SOAP
interface.

I'm not sure exactly what hooks Scriptura has over Jasper Reports. From a
distance iReport (Jasper) seemed similar but I don't know if it has a SOAP
or other interface you can hook into.

Anyone have seen a ad-hoc reporting tool that can work over an EOModel? My
ex-employer use Oracle Discoverer, who happens to use a model-like tool to
create entities and attributes over Oracle tables and views (an attribute
can also be a calculated one, or a call to a stored procedure). But that
means that when a new attribute is added, it must be added in a EOModel
and in the Discoverer model, same thing for logic.

So, does anyone have seen a tool that exposes entities and attributes out
of loaded models and allow users to select them to create lists and other
basic report types?
