tried that, but then the URLs don't shorten at all, and you get the fully ugly 
style - worse.

if the session sets IDs in cookies, then where's my cookie? no cookie!

so, lost cookie suggests....bad patterns in the properties file under apache 
deployment rewrite?? 

I'm testing a few things, I'll report if I see.
