ERPDFGeneration has two ways out controlling pdf output and pagination. The Flying Saucer implementation uses CSS to control things like page breaks and page sizes (http://flyingsaucerproject.github.com/flyingsaucer/r8/guide/users-guide-R8.html#xil_35)
I use the FOP version for rendering because I have XSL transforms that I've been working with for a long time and there are some bits of page layout control that I am more familiar with in FOP than in CSS. http://projects.apache.org/projects/fop.html The project in wonder / Examples / Misc / ERPDFExamples shows an example using the basic rendering, rendering with some CSS specifics and a couple of FOP examples.
