Did you checked the javascript console on your browser ? Usually when ajax 
stuff stop working after an event, some javascript error occurred, often caused 
by an illegal identifier.

The other cause is an exception in an ajax request execution on the server. 
Those are totally invisible to the browser but return invalid json strings and 
cause parsing error on the browser.
