[more about that cut]

I fully agree, just, when it comes to selling WO, that insight doesn't
help much, because more likely than not, your clients just had a similar
history, and don't want to look into the mirror.

The same systemic problem is the root of the Java hype. "There are millions
of Java programmers available." Problem is, millions of them are bad, and
just finished reading "Java for Dummies TM".

They'd be better off using an esoteric tool/language like e.g. ObjC,
SmallTalk, Scheme or whatnot, because at least most developers using
non-mainstream tools have shown a minimal amount of intelligence by
thinking about their tool choice rather than just jumping onto the
bandwagon.

As such, the chances of getting bad people who don't know what they are
doing increase as your tools become more mainstream.

But that insight, too, is not helpful, when it comes to selling things,
because more likely than not, the customers are exactly the ones who'd like
you to go with mainstream tools, and telling them how things are would be
at best a mildly disguised insult to their intelligence.
