I don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet (I haven't been  
following too closely), but how about setting up a WebObjects hosting  
service? $50k spread around dozens of sites would pay for itself  
pretty quickly, and the price per site would become affordable for  
smaller sites that need lots of dynamic content but don't bring in  
the bucks to make WO worth it. The service could develop and maintain  
the site as well as host it.

Of course, there are numerous problems with this, such as location  
of propietary databases, but it could be worth a short.

Yes, there are some companies out there doing this very thing, including
us.  In addition to the WebObjects cost, we are able to spread the cost
of high end servers, fault tolerant connectivity, and database
maintenance across multiple sites.  Our customers also like the idea that
folks with WebObjects expertise are minding the store, so to speak...
