We are in the process of re-configuring website for one of our customers.
Currently, we are running all services (WebObjects, Oracle, etc) on a single
Sun SparcServer 1000 (2 cpu's, 512Mb of ram). The site currently averages
around 250 concurrent WebObjects sessions. CPU utilization hovers around
40-50%, while memory utilization runs close to 400Mb. This is with 4
instances of our main application and single instances of administration and
other WebObjects applications.

Our goal is to configure the site to handle up to 1000 concurrent sessions.
We are planning an upgrade from 3.51 to 4.0 and also to split services (web
and database) between two machines.

My question is how suitable is Mac OS X on a G3 server for the task of Web
and WebObjects serving of up to 1000 concurrent sessions? I realize there
are many factors here, so my question is centered around robustness and
overall efficiency. Being that we are currently running Solaris, we are
also considering a 10S or similar Sun server. Remote admin is another key
requirement as the server runs at a hosting facility.

Any input of this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul
