This is the expected behavior for sqlite. It does the same thing if
you do it at the console:
sqlite> CREATE TABLE test(id int, name varchar[256],primary key(id));
sqlite> INSERT INTO test(name) VALUES ('foo');
sqlite> SELECT * FROM test;
|foo
You have to keep in mind that sqlite is not Postgres or Oracle; it
serves a different purpose. :) Postgres is a good choice if you want
those kinds of guarantees.
