I also have the same questions...
Right now I'm using an old version of webpy 0.3, and I wonder if there
are plans to actively support GAE (I know I should be offering my
collaboration instead of asking for features, but I'm far from being a
hacker...).
I believe webpy is just the "perfect" solution for python web
development (specually 0.3) and I also think that, by far, it's a
better alternative to Django or other frameworks. I love its
simplicity and its approach to solve the web problem.

But I also feel GAE is of paramount importance for python right now.
Aside of its potential as a platform, it could also be the entry way
for new python developers wanting to create their applications in
python, because it's free, it's readily available and it's very easy
to get started without configuration headaches, servers, etc...

In case that there is no interest within the core developers to
actively support GAE, perhaps they can point out some hints so that
other knowledgeable people can try to fix these issues (For example,
it would be great to have sessions support within webpy for GAE).
