Seems a good idea as an option. I looked at the old thread where the concern seemed to be that bsddbm was being removed from the core python libraries. Seems to me, this use of it should not need the bsddm feature set but should work with pretty much any dbm, key->value db.. so maybe rewrite it to use the anydbm library? Maybe then they would accept it? Hopefully they will let you know if that change would make it accepted before you do the work though.
