I wrote it as an experiment and "reference implementation" for PEP 444, expecting crap performance and at most possible use as a local development server. And I haven't benchmarked it with pipelining enabled yet. :/ (The protocol implementation is only 172 instructions, as reported by coverage on Py2.7.)

Unfortunately a minimum requirement of Python 2.6 is a deal breaker for the majority of production deployments. :( If we can't get 2.6 (one minor version behind) in production, I have no idea how long it'll take Python 3 to get into production. 10 years? :'(
