I seem to get floods of similar notes on at least a weekly basis. I honestly
think it is something we should not really solicit unless it is Solaris,
OpenSolaris, or OpenSolaris based Distro related. We all get "spammed" by
various groups, corporations and otherwise in our daily IT related job duties.
We should be more limiting about what we announce here. I am glad you raised
the concern. I didn’t even notice it... (I get too many floods of mail even at
times with being on a small handful of these lists)

Subject: [website-discuss] Announce postings

All,

Yesterday I approved an announce posting for some 'AMD Barcelona
Technical Training' and, due to the fact that I was in the middle of
other things at the time, I didn't read it very carefully until after it
was sent. Once I re-read it, it seemed to me that it was not appropriate
for the announce list, however a few folks did find it worthwhile and
contacted the individual regarding the program.

Moving forward I'd like to get some feedback from the folks on this list
on handling similar training/educational announcements in the future.

- Do you think training/education announcements ever belong on
   osol-announce?

- If not, should we create a new list for non-OpenSolaris specific
announcements for items such as this?

- Is it a different case if the training being offered is free?

- Should we work with poster interested in providing training to ensure
the session(s) are clearly outlined and the tone is correct (i.e.
   provide a template)?

Derek
