In response to a suggestion made on the OGB Suggestion Box wiki[1] about mailing list usage, and after being reviewed and discussed at an OGB meeting, I would like to request that an OpenSolaris mailing list best practices web page be established that includes the following areas to help educate OpenSolaris mailing list admins and moderators and help make the OpenSolaris email list management and user experience more consistent.
Example OpenSolaris Best Practice Areas - recommended / required mail list configuration settings - recommended non-member message handling - required number of admins and moderators for each list - suggested admin and moderator duties - [email protected] usage - moderation and subscription automated message examples - website staff email list activities - spam and blocking procedures Various pages on opensolaris.org including Project Setup Instructions[2], Lead Reference[3] and FAC[4] pages can add a pointer to the mailing list best practices. An announcement email should be sent when the web page has been established and when major changes are made to it.
