Also, we did have nice colors to differentiate between stables and RCs
on the OOo download page, maybe something based on the same

I also thought about this, but I'd like to suggest a slightly different
approach: what about moving the current nightly page from Get Involved /
QA / QA Downloads to Download / Prereleases (the actual name is a
subject to discussion)? It would still be visible enough, but not too
visible to be mistaken for the released thing.
The QA page should then simply have a link pointing to Download / Nightly.
