Hi Marc,

2011/4/29 Marc Paré<[email protected]>:
Here is an example where the Rich text editor corrupted the header and
footer of a wiki page.[1] I got a warning saying the page had been updated
by Helio. It looks like he added a suggestion for a slogan and saved. It
then corrupted the header and footer on this page. Without the header, this
then prevents members from going to their native language pages.

I remember a discussion about the RichTextEditor short time after the
start of our wiki here.
AFAIR the more technical experienced told us that the available
RichTextEditors are more or less buggy and that their use is not
recommended. This was also the reason that it is not defaulted.

Yes, however, it does look like we are using the FCKeditor which is no longer supported at Wikimedia (except for those who would prefer to use it in its current condition) and, we should be using the ckeditor, which is supported and being actively developed and debugged.

We need to provide an entry-point WYSIWYG editor for the "editor uninitiated" members such as myself and others who prefer to use such editors. I would not rather use a plain text editor and learn scripts when a WYSIWYG editor is available. We could have more members contribute more efficiently to the LibreOffice with a WYSIWYG editor along with those who prefer a plain text editor.

Besides which, we have enough members who could use it and report bugs to the ckeditor devs. We can play a more active part in improving our choice of wiki system. This, in the same way that we promote with our LibreOffice project.

Cheers

Marc
