At least I'd suggest to change the hint above the boxes from
  "(When you visit this page, we try to detect your system, and offer
   you the right download automatically, but we may not succeed in all
   cases.)" 

to 
   "<strong>If automatic detection of your system fails</strong>, please
      (1) chose your system manually from the listboxes
      (2) report the problem [Link to DetectorProblem page]"
(or similar)

On the "DetectorProblem page", which could even be a popup (?), detailed 
instructions should be given what to do/report (like those you 
mentioned:
