I think you can have some (more than one) package(s) installed on 1 VM. This way you can also test how the different packages behave under more load on the machine. Because in production you will always have more load on your system than in a 'testing' situation, and in the end you want a quick and responsive forum.... A piece of software which is NOT capable of being installed together with another piece of software is JUNK, and should be deleted from the list ;) But, as you mentioned in another mail, it is far more important to get some decisions on how you will be implementing the forum.
