that's a good point, indeed. I lack hands-on experience with recent
versions.
However, I just found this, which seems to be MediaWiki's official
approach, but in development:

Does this work with Firefox for you if you click on "Edit"? It does for
Safari and Chrome, but not with Firefox for me...
