Hi Jonathan, Definitely give FreeSWITCH a look. Obviously asterisk is more mature and well known, but FreeSWITCH is noted for it's performance and flexibility advantages over asterisk. For use it might not make a massive difference which is used, mind.
I've worked with both extensively over the past few years in various scenarios, including cloud deployments of both FreeSWITCH and asterisk with opensips as a load balancer, and I'm currently building an ITSP.
