The download page is getting cramped as you mention. Let's not forget that this page also needs a more effective "Donate" link, so that return users are gently prodded for donations. I especially like the new donate link on the TDF blog, which in my opinion is one of the best we have had. [https://blog.documentfoundation.org/]. Perhaps the new design will find a way to incorporate it on this particular page given that we usually have thousands visiting the downloads page to update their version of LibreOffice.
