Hi all
I wanted to raise the topic of potentially hosting the QA Dashboard[1]
at TDF.
Currently, the application is deployed on my personal ShinyApps[2]
account, which means the number of hours the app is active (i.e. being
used) counts toward my account's cap of 25 hours per month, which is
close to being reached.
There are two independent aspects:
1. Hosting a Shiny Server[3] to serve the app (and give access to
whoever is trusted to deploy updates to the app)
* I have no experience with self-hosting Shiny Server, so can't
talk from experience about how much work that would be. I am
aware that there is paid "pro" version that has extra features,
but I don't think we would need that.
* An alternative would be to have TDF have their own account on
ShinyApps, so the infra team does not have to maintain the
installation – but we might need to pay a subscription if an
increase in "active hours" is required.
2. Hosting the git repo, which is currently on Codeberg[4].
* That would allow other contributors to more easily submit
patches and go through the same review process as with other TDF
repos.
* Note that I intend to continue submitting patches to improve the
dashboard, even if my employment with TDF finishes at the end of
the month.
What do you think?
