Fedora 18 Spins have been released at the same time as Fedora 18 GA: 2013 january 15th! All the fixes released after this date are available through updates, as you said, and there is no official re-spin of the Spin you mentioned, because the F18-FEL-ISO will remain the same for the whole life of Fedora 18. Finally I think the issue is more related to your VM than to Fedora, as you mentioned also in your workaround.
