My understanding, details probably off a bit so correct it while adding to the spec: This has been contributed and integrated into the 2.4(?) tree upstream, but it is not final yet and may (if only in theory) still change. This case is backporting it to the 2.2.x release to make it available early for OpenSolaris customers but because the upstream is not final we'll declare it Volatile for now? -- Jyri J.
