Does apache support conditionals (similar to the IfModule) which could be leveraged to make this kind of choice at start time? It'd be nice to ship optimized configuration for specific Sun hardware platforms (+ a generic one) and have the best available chosen at run time. The filters IPS intends to introduce could also be used, although I don't know how if the currently planned attributes are going to be specific enough for this level of selection.
