That is at least how it's already done with PostgreSQL, which I am
currently integration a new release of.

The bin directory should have a subdirectory sparcv9 OR amd64 and a
softlink '64' pointing to this.  I assume that is a standard which
should be adhered to, though I haven't actually checked.
