Creating the directory by default is definitely a good idea. Also, the 
config file by default can point to /var/mysql/5.0/datadir . Now, if the 
user wants some place else, then it is entirely upto him to edit the 
config file. But, requiring them to create this basic stuffs can be 
considered non intuitive by the customers.
