I'd like to point to items in the Wish List at
http://www.genunix.org/wiki/index.php/Web_Stack for details on these items :

  a) include missing sources in appropriate pkgs (APC,mod_perl, etc.)
  b) Add mod_proxy
  c) Add info to mysql README
  d) Add DBI, DBD, MySQL, Sys:Syslog extensions to Perl
  e) Add SMF scripts for Apache, MySQL (minimally) and Tomcat,Squid
(optional)
  f) Add dtrace for PHP

The following are not on the above Wishlist but are issues already fixed
in Web Stack:
  g) Add PHP_fastcgi (for use with webservers other than Apache)
  h) Fix gd bug (needs a complete rebuild of gd library)
  i) Fix PHP configure line to fix config-file paths
  j) Fix Apache configure line for ldap (--enable-authnz_ldap)
  k) Add mod_fcgid to apache
  l) Update APC to 3.0.14 (3.0.11 is unusable in many situations)

This is a new bug :
  m) Analyze and fix Ldap not working with TLS issue for Apache

Build:
. Retain the current build mechanism. Upgrade to Studio 12 compilers.
Build all x86/x64 binaries using Studio 12 - there are significant
performance enhancements in Studio 12 that make it compelling. Besides,
a bug encountered while building the DBD extension of Perl is only fixed
in Studio 12.

Packaging:
. Retain the current packaging mechanism, but ensure that users can
update their installation in place (i.e user-modified config files are
not overwritten).

I don't believe there's a burning need to update the versions of any
components, except APC. We could update Tomcat since it's trivial (no
build required and the OSR should be a breeze).

All comments/input welcome. But a word of caution : We have limited
resources to work on this release, so asking for major updates is not
going to help (unless the community is willing to pitch in !)

Shanti
