Well, the JVM might have some trouble to talk the NTLM proxies, it is at least 100% true in non-Windows environments. I thought the Sun JVM on MS Windows can get through but I might be wrong. You could setup an intermediate CNTLM proxy, which acts like a "standard" proxy and can forward to your corporate NTLM proxy.
