POLITICAL BRIEFING BY PEGGY NOONAN: It looks like a win but feels like a
loss. The party-line vote in favor of the stimulus package could have been
more, could have produced not only a more promising bill but marked the
beginning of something new, not a post partisan era (there will never be
such a thing and never should be; the parties exist to fight through great
political questions) but a more bipartisan one forced by crisis and marked
bywell, let's call it seriousness. President Obama could have made big
history here. Instead he just got a win. It's a missed opportunity.

FEDS ALLEGE PLOT TO DESTROY FANNIE MAE DATA: The Justice Department says it
foiled a plot by a fired Fannie Mae contract worker in Maryland to destroy
all the data on the mortgage giant's 4,000 computer servers nationwide. The
U.S. Attorney's Office says 35-year-old Rajendrasinh Makwana, of Glen Allen,
Va., is scheduled for arraignment Friday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore
on one count of computer intrusion.

[you'd think that wouldn't work bc it would be backed up on other media
stored elsewhere]

COMMENTARY By OLIVER NORTH: On Wednesday, President Barack Obama and Vice
President Joe Biden went to the Pentagon for a getting-to-know-you gathering
with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Nothing that leaked out of this
off-the-record meet and greet disputed the proposal that the Marines be
phased out of Iraq and sent to battle the Taliban and al-Qaida.

HISTORY: On Jan. 30, 1948, Indian political and spiritual leader Mahatma
Gandhi was murdered by a Hindu extremist.
