Democrats repealed the tax code entirely today, citing the need to swiftly fill
positions in the Obama White House.
"The fact is, it's just impossible to find someone with the appropriate level
of government experience who hasn't cheated on their taxes," said Rahm Emanuel,
White House Chief of Staff.
"In all fairness, most career government officials are unaware that income is
taxable as income," explained White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. As he
spoke, Gibbs himself filed an amended return.
The issue came to a head recently as former majority leader Tom Daschle bowed
out of the running for Health and Human Services Secretary because he only
belatedly realized that receiving over two hundred thousand dollars worth of
goods and services -- a chauffer-driven car for one year -- could be considered
income. Daschle explained that he had thought the driver was just a "nice guy"
who offered to give him lifts because it was "on the way." "I couldn't believe
my luck," said Daschle, "For an entire year he was headed in my direction."
In later remarks, Daschle had said that he had thought it possible that he had
won the use of the car and driver in a church raffle or a lottery.
"He did win the lottery," said Jill McIntyre, a coal miner from Slakeville,
Pennsylvania. "He was elected to Congress, and after that, he's taken care of
for life."

Rush Limbaugh Fails Obama; Obama Thought He Had 'A Strong C'

Nationally syndicated talk show host Rush Limbaugh released his annual
Presidential Grades on Monday, giving President Obama an outright "Fail" in
what is being called a critical blow to his presidency.
"Limbaugh Presidential Grades (LPGs) are the most important grades a president
gets," said Yale political scientist and author Dr. Matt Leslie. "In fact,
depending on the LPG a president receives, it can actually affect his ability
to veto or approve of legislation."
"[Obama's] performance as president has been horrendous," said Limbaugh in a
statement. His comments were also mailed to President Obama in the form of an
official Rush Limbaugh Presidential Report Card (RLPRC). "In every major
category, including math and penmanship, he failed miserably."
"I am displeased in Mr. Hussein Obama's performance," continued Limbaugh, "as I
had such high hopes for him. However, in the wake of his dismal failure, the
only choice I have is to loudly oppose everything he does from now on."
Limbaugh, who has been grading presidents since 1793, gave former President
Bush straight As for eight years. ...
Indeed, in the wake of the announcement, 100 million Americans reversed their
votes for Obama. In light of this, the Florida Supreme Count is considering
giving the position back to George W. Bush, who could resume the presidency as
early as Friday.
"This is the happiest day of my life," said Bush. "It just goes to show that
cramming at the last minute and just trying to have a cool attitude about
things really pays off in the grades that count... the grades of life."

A not-so-funny thing happened on the way to economic recovery. Over the last
two weeks, what should have been a deadly serious debate about how to save an
economy in desperate straits turned, instead, into hackneyed political theater,
with Republicans spouting all the old clichés about wasteful government
spending and the wonders of tax cuts.
It's as if the dismal economic failure of the last eight years never happened
-- yet Democrats have, incredibly, been on the defensive. Even if a major
stimulus bill does pass the Senate, there's a real risk that important parts of
the original plan, especially aid to state and local governments, will have
been emasculated.
Somehow, Washington has lost any sense of what's at stake -- of the reality
that we may well be falling into an economic abyss, and that if we do, it will
be very hard to get out again. ...
.. The American economy is on the edge of catastrophe, and much of the
Republican Party is trying to push it over that edge.
