Dug, here's something you might enjoy. After I read this article I did a
search and found a video of Richard Dawkins. The name of the lecture is
Militant Atheism, which has a somewhat negative meaning but what he said was
really interesting.

He points out the way almost all US politicians have to either be religious or
lie about being religious in order to be elected. He also points out that many
people who are deeply religious, do not have a high IQ. So in other words,
politicans either are not that intelligent or have to lie about what they
believe in and possibly about their level of intelligence.

(We all know about the low IQ because we know that W got a lot of
fundamentalists to vote for him in both elections! And we also know that in
'04, Kerry got more intelligent voters while Bush got less intelligent voters.)

He also points out that about 1/3 of the population could be considered
athiest, agnostic or non-theist. And he suggests that this group could have a
great impact on politics if they were organized!! He also suggests they could
organize themselves in a similar way as the gays have also organized against
anti-gay groups.

And another thing..........speaking of religion, he said the big problem with
religion is that there are some things with religion where you cannot speak
against the theology. Why not? Ultimately, he suggests that we should all
stop being so polite and question more things.........I certainly agree with
that!!

Here's the video...........

  in their proposal it says:

THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives encourages the University of
Oklahoma to engage in an open, dignified, and fair discussion of the Darwinian
theory of evolution and all other scientific theories which is the approach
that a public institution should be engaged in and which represents the desire
and interest of the citizens of Oklahoma.

doesn't that mean that they encourage other opinions? And if so, why would
they try to ban him?

Aside from that, it doesn't really surprise me that Oklahomans would try to
ban someone who doesn't believe in their Christian God!! And it especially
doesn't surprise me that a politician would be against this............they
pretty much have to declare they're christian just to get elected!!

I don't consider myself a christian but then again I'm not planning on
running for office either......
