Minority voters should be able to have ID - they need that for a lot of things. A signature is no barrier to fraud - they'd just forge a signature. I thought of a scenario when I voted in California and needed to present no ID - just gave them my address. If a voter opts out and someone else of the same gender wants to steal their vote, they need only give the address and no one would be the wiser - they're not going to know the sig doesn't match. I see no insult to asking for ID. For all the publicity about voter fraud and hacking into machines that has been brought out since the 2000 fiasco, I note no one lodged that accusation in the 2008 vote.
