COMMENTARY By ROBERT KOTLER, MD, FACS (32 years private practice): Guaranteed health care for all Americans? It will never happen, although certainly, its time has come. Why? Because the insurance industry, our "invisible bankers", are quite fat and content operating and manipulating the current non-system. Capturing up to 25 cents of every " private insurance" premium dollar for claims processing is a better deal than getting only three to five cents from the government to process Medicare and medicaid claims( that is what the fed government pays the same insurers to process claims for those entitlement programs). The mere thought of that is very frightening to insurance execs. That is another reason they fear government administered medical care for all. After all, the easiest program to re-package and sell to the American people would be: OK, Americans, from now on , the Medicare program will be extended to all American citizens, not just those 65 or older. Welcome aboard!
