I sincerely apologize to any who might be offended especially those who are conservative and patriotic thinking citizens.
One of our family friends growing up was a schoolteacher friend of the family. Her name was Virginia Strange. True name. She always sent presents to all my b'days and XMas ... Usually consisted of garden seeds, a lot of knick knacks and a bunch of political reading. She had a whole room in her house devoted to John Birch Society stuff. It was all catagoriezed so that she could pull it on any specific topics. She spent a fortune acquiring it thru memberships in far right wing societies. When I turned 18 and began thinking for myself I began to trash all that stuff as soon as I saw it. That didn't stop her from mailing it monthly. She later was godmother to my 2 eldest daughters. She was a nice person but totally insensitive to all social issues. She taught special children in the public school before her retirement. By Special I mean alternative students...gangs, hispanics who would not learn or try to learn, bad or unreachable students. These were the early 60's and late 50's. My point is that it would be impossible to reach her on social issues. She was too well prepared to dispute them. Too set in her ways; unable to adjust to times. that were a changing,,,,, She left when they did in the 60's. Earlier I sent a message that ended with this definition: Fascism is passionate nationalism, allied to a conspiratorial dualism and a crude Social Darwinism, voiced with resentment toward the forces, or conditions, that restrain "the chosen people." or it could have been a definition of bigotry or of polarization. These are the people that whenever they out of their element will say they are not racists, or bigots and wrap themselves in a flag that they are the politically well chosen. But in their element these same people talk about niggahs, jewboys and those damm Catholics and burn crosses in the name of Christ. Not all of them but many of them. Now that we have a nigger in the White House their anger is enraged. Take that shooter last week who was afraid Obama was gonna take his guns away. Too bad he didn't....there still be some people alive. Same hypnosis that Sirhan used to help him kill RFK but for religious reasons of his own. Oh and Episcopalians are the same as Catholics don't ya know.... no shit! That's why it is said that it will take for the boomer generation to die off before some stability will begin to happen. Maybe a generation longer This is not a redneck problem this is a human problem. Education will not take on those who don't want it to take. Enlightment won't happen on those who live in the far past. To them Hitler was right on many points except killing Americans. To them Socialism is the same as Communism. To them W was God almost. Jesse Helms was a voice as was George Wallace. They are the same ones who supported Tammy Faye, Swaggart, and PTL, Falwell and the "Moral Majority." Guess what? Many of those are gone; even the far right religious leaders are abandoning them now. Most all Americans agree that we have lived thru the most corrupt period in our history. Our bill of Rights, Constitution and Declaration of Independence trashed before political gain. Treaties ignored, polarization of nations done. Now Obama tries valalianty to correct. He won't suceed but will try. They live amonst us. Some will never grow up in this Society of Today. We pray their kids and grandkids will. So those who think of their kids and grandkids and want a better life for them need to pay the heed that we are condemmed to repeat the past if we don't learn from it.
