The freed Lockerbie bomber will today celebrate his birthday in Libya; almost 8 months after he was released from a Scottish prison on compassionate grounds because he “was dying”. Abdel Baset Ali Mohamed al-Megrahi (pictured above, surrounded by his family as he lay “dying”) is said to have made a “remarkable recovery” after being allowed to return home last year when he had only “3 months to live”. The prostate cancer sufferer will mark his 58th birthday in Tripoli with family, friends and Libyan government officials who will be “enjoying a dignified celebration and thanking God for his survival”. This shady episode disgraced the memory of the victims and was clearly a political arrangement. The provisions of al-Megrahi’s parole states that he would be re-imprisoned if he “survived”, but do not hold your breath. The politicians who arranged the release of al-Megrahi, can live with this as a tribute to the memory of those murdered at Lockerbie.
