AN OPEN LETTER TO THE TEA PARTY MEMBERS It warms my heart to see the signs Tea Partiers wave that say "Reject Socialism" and "Demand lower taxes." It is good to know you will not be accepting Social Security checks or signing up for Medicare when you get old and that you will not accept the extended unemployment benefits when you lose your jobs and can't find a new one. It is good to know you will not avail yourself of the, "free to you vets," Veterans medical facilities. It is nice to know you will not turn to welfare for help when you lose your job, your home and have no money left. Or turn to the Food Bank to feed you and your family. I am pleased that you will never resort to using the emergency room for medical help because you have no insurance any more and can't pay the hospital. These services are all seen as socialism by many Republicans. I would like to remind you the highways you travel and the bridges you cross are paid with taxes. If you are going to reject socialism, don't drive on the roads. Don't call the police or fire departments for emergency help. Don't send your kids to public schools or state universities. Don't let them play on those socialist government playgrounds and parks or walk on public sidewalks. Don't vacation on government-owned lands, supported with taxes. Are you aware that income taxes have been as low as 3% for the average income person, and as high as 79% for the top money earners over the years? Put your money under the mattress or bury it in your yard instead of a Federally-insured bank that protects you from loss if the bank goes bankrupt due to poor management and investments and the government has to fix it on your behalf. Cut down on the government having any control over your money. Make certain your government does nothing to stop Wall Street or Stockbrokers from profiting from your investment losses. After all, that is a socialist government and you do not want it. Where does the money come from to provide the equipment to protect your sons and daughters who are willing to fight for you and your country so you can sleep safely at night? Yep, taxes support all of them. But, hey, you are anti-socialism, and want lower taxes, Right? Think again about what you are demanding and what you will have to give up in exchange for a no "Socialist" government and lower taxes. Now, go back in history and check out the taxes and compare them with what you pay today.
