Newspapers Retract 'Climategate' Claims, but Damage Still Done

All in all, this has been a text book exercise in the manipulation of public 
opinion. 

There is absolutely no reason to have any faith in our species' ability to 
think beyond sound bites and headlines and carefully re-contextualised 
cut-n-paste data. 

We'll believe what we're told and we'll like it. 

Last paragraph is of interest to those who saw the scientific impotence 
articles. 

We'll probably never know who the actual architects were, but grand concoctions 
like this don't happen by accident, especially when they neatly fit existing 
interests' agendas. 

But as the headline says, "the damage is done".
