Poole<http://www.facebook.com/laurieann.poole>There is a fine line
that must be trod here. There's imperialism and
exploitation of which the West has been terribly guilty and continues to be
in trying to control the Middle Eastern oilfields, for one horrid example.
The DeBeers cartel controls the diamond supply to keep the price and profit
up, for another example. But, there's meddling that I consider a good thing.
When it comes to human rights violations, if the West had not economically
sanctioned apartheid, it would not have been dismantled. If Live Aid had not
held its concerts and funneled charity proceeds to the starving, they would
have perished. If people see others being exploited, tortured, enslaved, are
they not just as guilty if they do nothing to stop the abuses? Maybe that
behavior is condoned by a region's religion, but are we to adopt a hands-off
policy and let the torture continue? Children and women, in particular, are
being treated as second-class humans in many parts of the world. Personally,
I believe these people need help. At what point does religious tolerance
mean that we cannot object to hideous crimes like genital mutilation,
slaughter of girl infants, forced child labor, sex tourism that exploits
underage boys and girls, and child brides?

Ibekwe<http://www.facebook.com/ik.ibekwe>‎"if the West had not
economically sanctioned apartheid, it would not have
been dismantled".... mind you, the blacks in south africa continuously cried
for help. so the west had to intervene.

"If Live Aid had not held its concerts and funnel...ed charity proceeds to
the starving, they would have perished".... for heaven's sake, the starving
people cried for help. hence live-aid responded.

In northern Nigeria (a Muslim region), a man is caught stealing and got his
hand amputated. when interviewed, he says his religion stipulates he must be
punished that way and he accepts it. Human rights group tried to intervene
by insisting that the man be tried in a secular court. the man insisted that
he is a Muslim and will not recognize any court but Sharia court. In
northern Nigeria, an offender has a right to choose which court will listen
to his case. this man chose the Sharia court. which means he is happy with
it.

women in Muslim states behave and are treated in a certain way. when
questioned, they say they understand their position in the society as
stipulated by their religion and accept it. these people are happy the way
they are. if they were not happy with their conditions, they would not have
continued with it when they go to foreign lands in USA, UK Europe or the
Americas. so leave them alone. get your nose off their cases. they have not
complained to you. they have not called out for help. until they do, let
them be. they accept to be treated that way. respect that. how hard is that
for you to do?

Kimm<http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001344123194>It would
indeed be a better place if the Muslims would know and respect the
boundries of other religions, but a cursory look at the news will show that
is not the case.

Ik Ibekwe <http://www.facebook.com/ik.ibekwe> if people know and respect the
boundaries of other religious sects that they do not belong to, the world
will be a better place. criticising or condemning a religion just because u
practice it does not help things. i am a Christian but i don't criticise or
condemn members of other religious groups. I may try to convince them to
give Christianity a try but i don't give them the impression that
Christianity is better than what they have as that will be an insult to a
belief they have grown with.

i believe people have a right to worship in whatever way they wish. if they
aint comfortable with their current practices, its up to them to change it,
or quit and join another group. when they are denied the freedom to choose
how they should worship, it is up to them to seek help. as long as they have
not complained or cried out that they are being suppressed, then they are
comfortable with their current practices and it will be irrational for
anyone to jump into any conclusion that condemns the sect.

Laurie Ann Poole <http://www.facebook.com/laurieann.poole> In
the UK they seem to be undergoing relentless Taliban-isation on an
almost daily basis. And a percentage of Muslim families living here are
taking things to extremes, like the picture above of a family day out
taking a dip in the sea. Their kids are getting it worse. Being punished
... for drawing pictures because that’s “un-Islamic.” Being removed from
music lessons because they’re “un-Islamic”. Not allowed to keep pets because
they’re “unclean” (and “un-Islamic”). Being told they can’t go to
classmates’ birthday parties because they will also be attended by
“unbelievers” (who presumably are “un-Islamic”).

Kimm<http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001344123194>The pix
did not come through. There are a lot of Muslims in Berlin. They
used to be mostly Turkish, and many Turkish have a much more tolerant type
of Islam as their faith. They women do not need to have their faces covered
all the time, etc. but they do walk 10 paces or so behind their husbands,
and they push the baby stroller and carry the groceries. They also have all
parts of the arms and legs covered even in the hottest weather and the men
were allowed to have another woman on the side. More and more of the strict
sorts are coming in though, with 11 year old nieces suddenly showing up in
fairly large numbers...and some more honor killings occurring.
