It might. Or it might not. The reports I've seen have been too mixed 
to consider MySQL for serious work any time soon. And in any case, I 
gather that it's layered on top of the Berkeley DB for this purpose, 
so why not just use that anyway? I would not seriously consider the 
use of MySQL for anything that involved real time inventories, etc.

Maybe just move to a real enterprise level database like PostgreSQL? 
MySQL is the darling of web people who never understood database 
design to begin with, but just knew that having database access was 
cool and were willing to learn enough SQL to get it to work. 
PostgreSQL may not scale quite as well as Oracle, but most of us are 
not trying to service e-bay and would prefer that the $60-600 grand 
that Oracle costs go towards programmer fees.
