I'm actually using mod_gzip now... but it has a few problems:
- it doesn't work that nicely with mod_ssl, you
have to use mod_proxy and jump through hoops
- it doesn't give application level control over
who gets compressed content or not, i'd like
this to be an user-level choice; there are also
other congfiguration issues that I'd like to
have more applicaiton control over.
- it works only with apache... I'd like to switch
over to medusa or some other python http server
in a while.
- it doesn't handle content that is already compressed.
