Probably nothing is wrong with your script . In fact it may be more secure, but I just happened to have this Encryption.py file on my computer from a different project and thought I'd pass it along.

I think for most purposes both ideas would work and without getting a cryptographic export on board to find out which is the more secure method, I can't really comment on that.

passwd_hash = sha.new(passwd).hexdigest()

Is your version much more secure than straight SHA1?
