I'm a Delphi programmer by day and the VCL (Visual Component Library) is a consistant design which has spawned literally thousands of 3rd party components - vast quantities of which are crap but there are *hundreds* of quality components. The VCL is far from perfect but because it defines a standard for key peices like menus, trees, grids etc which are usable "out of the box" there is a thriving market for drop-in replacements with enhanced features. In fact many of the "in the box" components are licenced from 3rd parties. Given a place to discuss, trade and compare components evolution/competition can do a wonderful job of providing the community with top-quality components (there will always be a lot of crud but the gold rises). Eventually Webware should ship with a set of UI components as standard which I think the community would be happy to provide. Ideally we'd only include the very best of them in the webware distribution as standard. from webware.components.menus import menu, menuitem from webware.components.trees import tree, treenode ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Etnus, makers of TotalView, The debugger for complex code.
