You're right, this is completely broken.  I'll enter a bug report on
SourceForge.

For what it's worth, there used to be a working HTTPAdapter in Webware CVS
in the WebKit/Experimental directory I think.  It looks like it got moved
into the Adapters directory and then got broken before 0.8 was released, but
nobody ever tested it until now.

This is one of the problems with adding little-used features.  They don't
get used very often, so when they break nobody notices right away.
