I think that the documentation for such systems usually takes you through how to make an app, and in the end you can make an app but you don't understand how it works (as a result, when you start making a real app, you'll be at a loss and you won't know why it doesn't work). In contrast, the webkit's installation manual only tells you exactly what it's doing behind the scenes; meaning you know what's going on before you write your first line of code. And it's interesting that when you come to what you would expect to be the important part, that is, how to make an app, the manual essentially says "I don't know, look at the examples", and understandably so; because you can easily figure this out.
