Sorry for not being totally sympathetic, but a working httpd is just a requirement, and frankly webware is not all that hard to set up, with apache it is just a couple of lines added to the httpd.conf, which can be found in the either the documentation or on the wiki.
i have to clarify my position: i'm happily using webware under
apache right now and developing a couple of commercial web sites. i've studied apache integration and all that scary stuff; my comment was
referring at the "newbie factor". as a newbie i want instant gratification. i think it's important. other python web frameworks
have a way to start a stand-alone http server, and i think it's
nice that webware has its own way too.
with the webware version in the CVS is simpler to start playing with the example code since you don't need to know apache, you don't need to have apache installed, you have to install only the package, run a batch file and point the browser to localhost:8080.
