The list here is the only useful metric; how many people are subscribed? That's a question for the mailman admin.
I've been subscribed since mid '02, and since then, there have been over 7,000 messages. I find that the list has little spurts of excitement, and typically people with questions are answered within the day.
The wiki has a page of "active" projects, but I know that it's not very complete. My firm uses Ww for all of our non-static projects, and none of them are listed there.
I'm not sure that popularity is a very good metric, in any case. Mostly because it's difficult to answer these questions for all frameworks. You may be better off reading up on various competitive analyses of python web frameworks that have been kicking around lately. Some of them even compare to java stuff.
In the end, it's open source, and good code. You can read the source and modify it in a pinch. And because it's not a whole religion like Zope, you don't really need "plugins" since python is so easily available. In a sense, anything that python can do Webkit can do.
I hope that this is useful. If you have any particular questions, feel free to email me here or off-list.
Good luck.

i'm trying to make a case for using webware in a project, and i need to have a guesstimate of the size of the user community. this'd let me make a case for the ongoing health of the product, as well as for the
likelihood of getting support via this list.
does anyone have any numbers for:
how many people use webware?
how many people are on this list?
how many projects/companies use webware?
thanks
